The EWOW Cast Reading Project

The EWOW Cast Reading Project

The EWOW Cast Reading Project (ECRP) was a community-wide project hosted by Sausiiie. It’s stated goal was to read the usernames of every EWOW contestant, after Cary said he was interested in such a project in EWOW 1A. The ECRP Discord server opened up on April 5th, 2024, and the final video was uploaded on July 2nd later that year.

History

The ECRP opened for business on April 5th, but the idea was much older than that. There had already been multiple individual efforts to read the EWOW cast, but there was little to no organization between these projects. So Sausiiie took it upon himself to create a unified, community-wide hub for cast reading, so that a high-quality video could be made more quickly.

The project gained contributors almost immediately, with the first contribution being Andrew 1.0’s reading of the first 5 segments. Though what truly opened the floodgates was an endorsement from The EWOW Experience, a server making their own fan-made EWOW project. (You can find more info here.) One moderator, TheBig4, endorsed the ECRP the same day it released. The server exploded in popularity, gaining over 40 recorded segments in the following days.

The plan of attack for the ECRP was to divide the massive number of 16,607 usernames into 166 segments, each 100 segments long. Users could then claim certain segments for themselves to record later. Most readers would opt to read segments containing their own name and the segments surrounding it. Readers would additionally be rewarded with specific roles for reading 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 segments respectively.

Every segment had to be recorded, edited, inspected and corrected before it could be passed into the final video. It was a massive undertaking, and without the help of certain contributors like PenSteel and Meptune, the ECRP would not have seen completion.

The project would mature from there. The first editor to join was Meptune, who also created the “Currently Reading” cards that would become the standard for the video. Later on, Sidge discovered a group of 20 names was lost entirely, prompting Sausiiie to add the Inspector role. Soon after finishing recording, TheMissingPage offered to draw the thumbnail, which would be hyped up for the rest of the project. Sausiiie would also restructure the server several times, making the project more efficient overall.

But there were plenty of shenanigans that went down. This is the TWOW community after all. From the top reader claiming sovereignty over a channel and starting a cult, to PenSteel getting their own voice channel specifically for reading fanfiction, to a lot of Putt Party games, you really had to be there to experience it all.

But perhaps the most iconic moment from the ECRP came on April 16th, when recording segment 44, SkunkGamer2008 screamed the name “EEE WOW!” so loud he clipped his microphone. SkunkGamer was in a call with Sausiiie, PenSteel and TheMissingPage who all found it hilarious and quickly turned into an inside joke. Sausiiie even added it to the server’s soundboard. Sausiiie would later try to convince the TWOW Central moderators to add it to their soundboard to no avail.

This iconic moment can be found at timestamp 2:13:32 in the final video, or alternatively you can relive it by hitting the play button below…

Though we decided to have a little fun with the video as well. Hidden throughout the video are several easter egg edits. These can be for funny usernames, famous TWOWers, contributors referencing themselves, and many more. Some of these edits can be found as separate videos on Sausiiie’s YouTube channel, and MannifyYT documented a lot of them in this comment, but there are still several more waiting to be unearthed!

Toward the middle of the project, Sausiiie asked all the contributors to create a unique credit for themselves, which is seen at the start of the final video. These credits show off each contributor’s personalities on full display and watching them in order is very entertaining.

The last thing ever submitted to the ECRP was the credit for Meptune, an editor for the project. Sausiiie quickly seized the credit and produced the final video only a few hours later, then set it to premiere later that day. The final video was nearly 8 hours long and over 2.5 gigabytes in size. The premiere lasted the whole length of the video and peaked at 11 viewers (fittingly enough) The video was met with mostly positive reception.
